In power generation, finned tubes are used in boiler economizers, air preheaters and air-cooling systems. The limited space in the boiler tail flue makes finned tubes ideal: they add a large heat-transfer area, cut exhaust temperature and raise boiler efficiency.

Direct and indirect air-cooled units use high-fin-ratio bundles to cut cooling-water consumption, ideal for coal-rich, water-scarce regions. For sulphur-bearing flue gas, ND or Corten steel and soot blowers are recommended to control corrosion and fouling.

Common types: spiral finned tubes, H-type finned tubes and ND steel economizer bundles.
